Grand Seiko Spring Drive 5 Days “Minamo” (Ref. SLGA007)
Grand Seiko is well-known as Seiko's high-end brand. In recent years, it has begun to stand on its own and launched two new limited edition watches inspired by nature. The Spring Drive 5 Days “Minamo” comes from this model line, blending Grand Seiko's production philosophy, known for its superior craftsmanship and advanced technical movements, with a design inspired by nature.
This family of models has just been added to the line-up to celebrate Seiko's 140th anniversary. The Spring Drive 5 Days “Minamo” is one of the watches that continues Grand Seiko's interest in Japan's natural beauty at full speed to highlight this special day.
The new watch has a stainless steel case with a diameter of 40 mm and a height of 11.8 mm. The beautiful case features the brand's exclusive Zaratsu technology and is water-resistant to 100 meters. Featuring scratch-resistant sapphire crystal on both sides, the case stands out with its simple yet sporty lines that we are familiar with from modern Grand Seiko models.
Grand Seiko also continues the trend of design elements inspired by nature with this new model. "Minamo" translates to "water surface" in Japanese. The surface shape successfully applied to the dark blue dial is inspired by the waves of Lake Suwa. Frankly, it's necessary to see these watches in person to understand how successful these details are that are unique to Grand Seiko. However, even the promotional photos are enough to give an idea of the beauty of the dial. The gold GS and Grand Seiko logos on the dial are paired with thick scales and triangular hands, which appear harmoniously with the solid gold second hand. On the other hand, the phrase "5 DAYS" that emphasizes the movement in the model is the only detail that strikes me as unnecessary. There is a date window at 3 o'clock on the dial, which displays black fonts on a white background disc.
This model is powered by the in-house Caliber 9RA2 movement. The movement is designed using the brand's patented Spring Drive principle and can provide a power reserve of 5 days/120 hours when fully wound. The movement is equipped with the brand's Offset Magic Lever technology and has an impressive monthly accuracy of ±10 seconds.
